Demi’s twin sister. She was locked in a basement her whole life. This picture was taken the first time she went outside. Her name is Poot.
I remember people talking about how this post was problematic because people actually get locked in basements and therefore finding this funny makes you a bad person. And I lowkey agreed
funny thing about the 30-50 feral hogs guy is that an ar-15 is arguably woefully inadequate to deal with that many hogs, therere videos of guys driving around in jeeps lighting up fleeing hogswarms with belt fed machine guns and m4s and they only get like 20 at most. 30-50 feral hogs vs one guy with a semi automatic rifle and a few unarmed children is an unwinnable situation. all this to say, artillery barrages are the only viable home defense equipment when dealing with the hogtide
23 years old and I just made the connection that people on the northern hemisphere have a different view of the moon than people on the southern hemisphere.
I was a whole like, 40ish years old when I went to the equatorial region for the first time. My North American ass went to Colombia and first off, could not fuckin handle the fact that while it felt like summer (80-90F, humid), the sun went down on the dot of 6pm every night and rose at 6am every morning. There I was at 7pm fully beliving it was midnight, because it was both dark and hot. Like, I’m used to early dark! but it’s cold when it’s dark early! I could NOT handle it.
And then, there in the dark, pitch-midnight-summer-black at 7pm, up pops this lovely crescent moon and it is
fucking SIDEWAYS
i had NEVER EVER EVER realized, despite knowing my whole life that the moon is a spherical object rotating around Earth, also a spherical object, that it would be at different angles from different spots on Earth.
It’s the MOON! How can it be DIFFERENT! My poor patient partner drew me a diagram and I was like listen I know all of that but I cannot actually handle it. Nobody warned me the moon looks different.
So yeah my feeble mind was BLOWN, all y'all world travelers/residents can laugh at me now. Knowing it is one thing, experiencing it is something else, and I did NOT see it coming.
I remember being in the pagan scene in my twenties and being faintly annoyed by the omnipresent triple moon symbol: )O(
… because I’m from the southern hemisphere and it Doesn’t Look Like That here. And (O) does not look anywhere near as cool.
The wikipedia article on Lunar Phases has really cool videos of the moon’s phases this year for both the northern and southern hemispheres! It’s highly detailed and shows how not only are the phases different in shadow but also that the face of the moon looks different in each hemisphere too!
Also a big fan of this diagram which shows the phases at more specific latitudes (including the “sideways” look at the equator!):
I do appreciate studies giving hard data that may seem obvious to us (e.g. physical discipline is bad for kids, responsible marijuanna use probably won’t give you turbocancer, UBI is pretty dope, people who get healthcare die less) but I sure do wish the opposing sides actually cared about hard data
Qobuz is the most ethical alternative to spotify and even tidal (tidal is just pandora radio in a different font; you can’t curate playlists, which i absolutely fucking hate, but you can curate playlists on qobuz, and the royalties they pay to their artists are far larger than spotify) that i’ve been able to find, thanks to this post on instagram by singer-songwriter laura burhenn. the post also lists other alternatives, including tidal, but qobuz is by far the best of the lot. they even have a free feature called soundiiz where you can transfer all of your playlists from spotify to qobuz!
since I know for a fact survival theft will be going up this month, do not steal from Target, they have some of if not The highest end security measures in place, even if they don’t call you out on your first theft, they know you did it, and they’re waiting until you’ve stolen enough to get the law involved.
I am dead serious. Do not fucking steal from Target, you Will be caught.
for real they’ll keep a list of things you’ve stolen and let you keep stealing until you hit the statutory minimum for a felony charge. when if they wanted to stop theft they could have also just banned you from the store after the first time. but I guess they just think sending people to prison is neat.
With American Thanksgiving coming up, I’d like to remind everyone reading this that it’s a day of mourning for the Wampanoag people. If you can, donate to help them preserve their culture, their language, and to fight for their legal rights and recognition.
If you live in the New England area, make a trip out to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Museum. Hear the history of the First Thanksgiving from the people who were most affected by it. They go into detail of the events and cultural impacts of the first five years after the Mayflower’s landing.
